H.H Pope Tawadros II delivered his weekly speech at the Wednesday evening meeting from the Church of the Cathedral of St. Virgin Mary and St. Anba Bishoy in Abbasiya. The sermon was broadcast on Christian satellite channels and C.O.C channel of the Church’s media center on the Internet.
H.H resumed the new educational series “The Marriage Union” as a basis for building a holy Christian family, as he dealt with part of the thirtieth chapter of Proverbs in the Old Testament and verses 7 to 9, as well as a verse from the Epistle of St. Paul the Apostle to the Romans “who rules, so be diligent” (Rom 12: 8). He pointed out, “How to build an ideology for a holy family,” and the meaning of the word “economia” that is abundant in Christian books that are concerned with service. H.H explained that it is a Greek word meaning “management,” and that the measure is the optimal use of all that is available to Man, of energies, talents and possibilities. He also warned against extremism in all its forms, from waste and distillation. H.H also pointed out how to raise our children from childhood in the field of management, through:
1- Guardianship of the blessing:
“The blessing of the Lord is rich, and he adds no trouble with it” (Proverbs 10:22) as Guardianship the blessing is “a form of faith”, such as raising the tithes from the expenses because it is the right of our Lord, and from the spirit of faith that the blessing becomes evident in a little, “If we have food and clothing, let us suffice with them” (1 Timothy 6:8), “Better is a dry morsel and peace with it, than a house full of sacrifices with strife” (Proverbs 17:1). Guarding blessings is an upbringing of faith and gratitude, and it starts from childhood.
2- Guardianship of satiety:
Guardianship of satiety is one of the important needs that we raise our children on “A full soul treads on honey” (Proverbs 27:7), and “spiritual satiety is meant by the virtue of contentment.” We must teach them not to be influenced by the temptation of advertisements, for the satiated soul is a form of holiness.
3- Guardianship of the time:
God gives us many gifts, and the most precious of them is time (life), so it is necessary to raise children to manage time well, whether in diligence, work or service, “He made everything well in its time” (Ecclesiastes 3:11). It is also necessary to raise them to respect time, and to allocate time for worship, listening, reading and social relations, and to teach them the “virtue of patience” through the cultivation of time, and that patience will fulfill their dreams for them, “with your patience acquire yourselves” (Luke 21:19). We should beware of the effect of devices, such as mobile phones, in stealing time, and beware of marriage at an early age.
H.H assured the importance of the three fields in education for the sake of good management because management is a good virtue and we all need it and we need to be occupied with it, “Give me neither poverty nor wealth. Or, lest I become poor and steal, and take the name of my God in vain” (Proverbs 30:8-9).
This educational series comes in line with the launch of the “My Family is Holy” year, which came as a recommendation from the Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church in its plenary session, which was held on the 9th of June, and in the consolidation of the principles and values of a normal Christian family, as H.H mentioned in the first episode of the series that he started On the 15th of last June.
