Today, Saturday afternoon, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II attended the Opening Ceremony of the academic year 2022/2023 and the graduation ceremony for this year at the Papal Residence, in St. Mark’s Cathedral, Alexandria.
Father Andrawes Matta, Dean of the College, began the ceremony with a welcoming speech, in which he explained the college’s vision and goals and working on the new systems in terms of forming the main departments, curriculum , lecturers, modern teaching methods and more advanced exam systems.
Then His Holiness delivered a speech in which he thanked Father Abraam Bashondy, the former Dean of the College for the period in which he led the college. His Holiness then spoke about St. Paul’s Epistle to Timothy,
on the interactive relationship between the teacher and the student, and the effort that the student needs, referring to the martyrs who shed their blood for the integrity of education.
“And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops. Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things.”
(2 Timothy 2:2-7)
The His Holiness honored the graduates of the 2022 academic year and handed them their graduation certificates and after that the graduates gave their pledge.
His Grace Bishop Elarion, General Bishop of the Churches of the Western District of Alexandria, His Hrace Bishop Hermina, General Bishop of Churches of the Eastern District of Alexandria, and Father Abraam Emil, Deputy of the Patriarchate in Alexandria also attended the ceremony.
