His Holiness Pope Tawadros II announces about a meeting for the Patriarchs of the Orthodox Churches of the Middle East in Cairo next week, mentioning that this meeting is held on regular basis every two years. His Holiness concluded his weekly Wednesday sermon by announcing about the meeting. Today’s weekly sermon was held in St. Virgin Mary’s and St. Bishoy’s Church in Abbaseya.
Also, about the meeting of the Patriarchs, His Holiness said:”Next week, His Holiness the Patriarch of Antioch, Mar Ignatius Aphrayem II, and Catholicos Aram, the Patriarch of the Armenian Church, will visit us. This meeting is called “The Meeting of the Three Patriarchs in the Middle East”, in the sister churches”.
His Holiness then added, “The sister churches are what we call oriental churches, and there is 6 of them in the world. The Coptic, the Syriacs, the Armenians, the Ethiopians, the Eritreans and the Indians. These are the ancient oriental churches and three of us will meet”.
His Holiness also explained, “It is a meeting held every two years to exchange news about our churches and study our relations with other churches and to arrange a meeting for the Patriarchs of the six oriental churches, which is an important meeting”.
His Holiness expressed his welcome to the meeting saying: “ We will be blessed by the Patriarchs’ visit and it is a great opportunity to ask about each other. The meeting is supposed to take place once in Cairo, once in Beirut and once in Damascus, but due to the circumstances in Syria and Lebanon, it will be held again in Cairo after it was stopped during the pandemic for the past two years”.
His Holiness also announced that there will be temporarily no weekly meeting for the next two weeks, the 19th and the 26th of October and with God’s Grace it will resume in early November.
