H.H. Pope Tawadros II prayed at the funeral of H.G. Bishop Dawoud, Bishop of Mansoura, that was held St. Mary & Archangel Michael’s Cathedral in Mansora at 11am. Twenty two Metropolitans and Bishops have attended the funeral in addition to priests from the Diocese and some priests from different Dioceses and some monks while the Church was full of people from the Diocese who came to farewell their father, H.G. Bishop Dawoud.
This was after the Liturgy, which was held in the early hours of this morning, in the presence of the body of H.G. Bishop Dawoud, and H.G. Bishop Salib, Bishop of Mit Ghamr, Dakadous & Bilad El Sharkia prayed the Liturgy.
His Grace Bishop Dawoud rested in peace yesterday, at the age of about 66 years, after spending more than 32 years in monasticism, including 20 years as a bishop of the Diocese of Mansoura and its affiliated regions.
His Holiness the Pope delivered a speech in which H.H. offered his condolences for the departure of H.G. Bishop Dawoud, pointing out that it is necessary for a person to pay attention during his life on earth to the value of Heaven, as life on earth ends in clay.
H.H. explain three features that distinguishes the Heavenly community:
– A Righteous Community: a community without defilement, troubles or conflicts, and a person will be in the company of God, who is pure
– A Peaceful Community: The peace that we are looking for here on earth, either in society, family, or others and we may not find it. We find wars on earth but in Heaven we find everlasting peace.
– A Joyful Community: that is, true happiness. Here we rejoice in temporary matters, but in Heaven we will have everlasting joy.
About H.G. Bishop Dawoud, H.H. said that he had several characteristics such as:
– A quiet person: he had a quiet presence in all his dealing in the Holy Synod and in his Diocese
– A satisfied person: he accepted everything with no complaining, but rather with satisfaction and thanksgiving
– A patient person: as he accepted the cross of sickness with all patience.
His Holiness then concluded with expressing his condolences with the name of the Holy Synod, Metropolitans, Bishops, priests and H.G. Bishop Dawoud’s Family to the congregation of the Diocese and everyone who have attended.
H.H. the announced that H.G. Bishop Salib will be the Papal Vicar of Mansoura Diocese until arrangements are made in the future in regards to it pastoral matters.
The funeral was attended by Dr Ayma Mokhtar, Governor of Dakahlia, Dr Kamal Sherobeem, Former Governor of Dakahlia, Major General Marawan Habib, General A.H. Ahmed Al Seweedy, the military advisor of the Governorate, and the executive, legislative and partisan leaders of the Governorate, a representative of the Ministry of Endowments and Al Azhar and representative of the Christian communities in Dakahlia who have offered their condolences to His Holiness.
