Today, at the Papal Residence in Cairo, H.H. Pope Tawadros II received 48 of the Church’s Metropolitans and Bishops and Fr Sergius Sergius, Patriarchal Vicar in Cairo and Fr Seraphim Wadea, Patriarchal Vicar of Mansoura.
The fathers congratulated His Holiness on his recovery from the health ailment he was exposed to during the Christmas Liturgy, noting that they were regularly following up on His Holiness’s health to be reassured.
His Holiness reassured them that it was a matter of exhaustion as a result of the efforts that H.H. had made throughout the month preceding the feast, stressing that the examinations had proven that there was no disease that required any kind of therapeutic intervention, and that the physicians had only recommended the need for H.H. to rest. H.H. mentioned that he had spent his resting period at between the Papal Residence in Cairo and Beit El Karma in King Mariout, Alexandria.
About what happened during the Christmas Liturgy, His Holiness indicated that he felt dizzy so had to sit down during the sermon, but H.H. insisted on waiting until the start of the Holy Communion, then he left after that.
His Holiness added: What concerned me the most in these moments is that we are on Christmas Eve and everyone is happy, and I was thinking a lot lest my “tiredness” cause people to feel anxious. So I made sure to meet my people in the morning and to speak on television, to reassure everyone, then I went to the hospital.”
His Holiness mentioned that it was only necessary for him to go to the hospital to perform some analyzes and x-rays, stressing that he returned to the Papal Residence in Cairo as soon as the results of the examinations came out.
His Holiness commented: “The last situation reminded me of the need to distribute the effort, so that we can complete our work without delay, especially since I feel that the rest period that I got had good results, and this is what I advise everyone to do by making sure to distribute their efforts.”
The fathers attending expressed their happiness at the return of His Holiness to his activity, while H.H. is in perfect health, wishing H.H. continued health and wellness.
It is expected that His Holiness will receive, in the coming days, a number of other priests of the Church, who were unable to come to check on His Holiness and congratulate him.
