His Holiness Pope Tawadros II spoke, at the beginning of his sermon at the weekly Wednesday meeting, today, about the Church’s celebration of the commemoration of the departure of Saint Pope Kyrillos VI tomorrow, and His Holiness gave an overview of Saint Pope Kyrillos who spent about 12 years in the Patriarchate, and the Holy Synod of the Church recognized his Holiness in 2013.
The speech of His Holiness in this regard was as follows:
“Tomorrow we will celebrate in the Coptic Church the memorial of the departure of St. Pope Kyrollos, and Pope Kyrollos as we know H.H. was a patriarch from 1959 to 1971, i.e. about 12 years. Pope Kyrillos served with love and honesty, and we in the Holy Synod in 2013 and more than forty years after his departure recognized that his name should be included among the saints of the Coptic Church, and since that time there began to be altars and churches named after him, as happened and the first church on His name is in the Monastery of Saint Mina, a year or two after our recognition of Pope Kyrillos as a saint, and his name is now mentioned in the Mass and Midnight Praises. It has also become possible for icons to be painted and hung on the iconostasis in the church or anywhere, we ask for his prayers and intercession for us, and today he left us 52 years ago, and we remember him to this day, and we remember his works and miracles, and often there are among those present people who met with Pope Kyrillos and dealt with with him closely and know him very well.”
