Today, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II consecrated St. George’s Church, Gazirat Badran, Shoubra, which is affiliated with the Southern Shubra Churches District , after the completion of the renovations that were carried out in it.
Upon his arrival at the church, H.H. removed the curtain from the commemorative plaque that dates its consecration. Commemorative photos were taken of H.H. next to the plaque, along with H.G. Bishop Makari, the general bishop of the churches of the southern Shubra sector, and the priests of the consecrated church.
Then the procession of His Holiness went inside the church to begin the consecration prayers. The main altar of the church located on the first floor was consecrated on the name of St George the martyr, the main altar of the church on the ground floor was consecrated after the name of St George the Martyr and St. Pope Kyrollos VI, and another altar was consecrated after the name of the St Virgin Mary.
In his speech after the consecration, His Holiness gave thanks to the church’s priests, council, and deacons. H.H. pointed out that the church is distinguished by the fact that H.H. Pope Shenouda III visited it and consecrated its baptism and some icons. Saint Pope Kyrollos VI also visited it and dedicated an altar there on the name of Saint Anba Bishoy, as well as the H.H. late Pope Yusab II in 1951.
His Holiness and the attending fathers prayed the Divine Liturgy, after the consecration, and delivered a sermon , during which H.H. presented three tips that help people renew and beautify themselves during the period of great lent, which are:
1- Repentance: That is, a person works to make his soul repentant, and hastens to constantly purify the heart.
“I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.”
(Luke 15:7 )
2- Mercy: we must learn the work of mercy, because sin makes hearts of stone, which makes man lose his humanity, “Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions.”
(Psalms 51:1) and our soul should be merciful in our relationships, dealings, and words, and we should feel for the other.
3-Forgiveness: That is, when a person has the ability to forgive others, and when he is able to forgive others, this means that he has a heart full of love.
“And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.”(Matthew 6:12), and love is the ability to forgive the other and the ability to forget the mistake others made.
H.E. Metropolitan Danial, Metropolitan of Maadi and the Secretary of the Holy Synod, and H.G. Bishop Makari and eight others bishops have attended the Liturgy.
