His Holiness Pope Tawadros II witnessed this evening the celebration of Martyr George’s Church in Sporting, Alexandria, on the 44th anniversary of the departure of Fr Bishoy Kamel (who departed on March 21, 1979).
Upon his arrival at the church, His Holiness went to the shrine of Fr Bishoy Kamel, who prayed thanksgiving prayers and poured spices the cemetery containing his body.
The participation of His Holiness this year in the celebration of the feast of the departure of Fr Bishoy Kamel, is on the occasion of the official recognition of His Holiness by the Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church in June of last year.
His Holiness delivered a speech at the celebration, which will last for several days, during which H.H. addressed a topic entitled “Perfect Love”, where H.H. read part of the first Epistle of St. John the Beloved, chapter four verses 7-18 and H.H. spoke about the characteristics of the love of God to us which are:
1. Personal
2. Continuous
3. Joyful
H.H. also pointed out that the love required of us has two aspects:
1- Loyalty
2- Care
Bishops of the districts of Alexandria who have attended are: H.G. Bishop Pavly, General Bishop of Montaza, Alexandria, H.G. Bishop Elarion, General Bishop of West Alexandria and H.G. Bishop Hermina, General Bishop of East Alexandria, as well as Fr Abraam Emil, the Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria and a number of priests and congregation.
