Today, the Papal Office for Projects, in cooperation with the National Council for Women, Cairo branch, organized a celebration to honour Egyptian women and their role in society, titled “Women’s Development for Community Development.”
His Holiness Pope Tawadros II opened the ceremony through an exhibition of small products made by women supported by the Papal Office for Projects.
In the framework of the celebration, the Papal Residence hosted 120 women from various regions, in addition to a number of members of the National Council for Women. The activities of the celebration were attended by H.G. Bishop Nofer, Bishop of Shibin El Qanater and H.G. Bishop Axios, General Bishop of Ain Shams, Mataria & Helmeyat Al Zaytoun, and Dr. Jacqueline Azer, Deputy Governor of Alexandria.
The ceremony included an educational seminar for women on financial inclusion with the aim of supporting women in light of the difficult global economic conditions, followed by a medical seminar to educate women about the importance of periodic examinations and the necessity of early detection as well as proper nutrition to maintain health.
Dr. Jacqueline Azar spoke on the importance of the societal role of women and how they have an effective role in society. H.G. Bishop Axios spoke about the role of women today in society, encouraging women to have an effective role in their local communities.
At the end of the celebration, a number of women who presented examples of struggle and success were honoured. After that, the participating women visited the exhibition of small projects products, and they also visited the medical convoy located in the cathedral, which included dental, ophthalmology, internal medicine and women clinics.
It is scheduled that the medical convoy will continue to be present in the cathedral, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, as part of the celebration of Egyptian women, and that will take place tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, as women’s health clinics for early detection of breast cancer will be present from ten in the morning until two in the afternoon.
