His Holiness Pope Tawadros II received today, Monday, at the Papal Residence in Cairo, the delegation of the General Association of Egyptian Doctors, headed by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Farid Hamdy, Secretary General of the Association.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Secretary General expressed his appreciation to H.H. for his keenness to receive the Association’s delegation, a meeting that was expected to take place some time ago, but various circumstances, most notably the spread of the Corona virus, caused it to be postponed.
Dr. Farid commended the position of His Holiness towards doctors and his constant encouragement and appreciation for their role in society.
For his part, H.H. welcomed the delegation, and pointed out that the Physicians’ Association is an important model because it is the syndicate concerned with the profession that cares about human health.
His Holiness stressed the importance of basic education curriculum including topics that establish the value and importance of the role of each profession, so that we have generations aware of the value of different professions and their importance to humans and societies.
H.H. mentioned that the title that was given in the past to the doctor, which was the title of “wise”, pointing out that it carried an important implication, which is that the role of the doctor before being a professional must be characterized by wisdom, which reveals the great importance of the role of doctors in society.
There was also a discussion about the challenges that doctors face while practicing their work, and the importance of providing them with a suitable environment to play this role to the full potential.
At the end of the meeting, the delegation of the Medical Association presented the shield of the association to His Holiness, while His Holiness presented them with a book about the journey of the Holy Family written in ten languages, then memorial photos were taken.
