The Coptic Orthodox Church and its Holy Synod, headed by His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, farewell, in the hope of resurrection, the thinker and faithful servant, Dr. Anton Yacoub Mikhail, former dean of the College of Theology in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and former dean of the Institute of Coptic Studies in Cairo, and the former head of the African Studies Department at the Institute, who rested in the Lord today, at the age of nearly 102 years, after a life full of intellectual, scientific, and spiritual giving to the Church, to which he devoted himself entirely to serving with all honesty and sincerity.
Dr. Antoun was one of the most prominent people interested in African studies in general, and urban geography and Ethiopian studies in particular. He wrote many works in these fields that enriched the Arab and church libraries.
May his pure soul rest in peace, and condolences to his blessed family, his students, and all his lovers.
