This morning, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II delivered a speech on the ON channel, one of the channels of the United Media Services Company, which owns the channels (ON – DMC – Al Hayat – CBC), as part of the weekly Sunday sermon program.
His Holiness addressed the readings of today’s Mass, which is the first Sunday of the month of Thoout (the first of the Coptic months), and the subject of the Gospel, which is “John the Baptist” in the Gospel of Luke, chapter 7. H.H. pointed out the wisdom of John the Baptist because he knew his specific path in life, and he recommended that we follow him as a model of during:
the voice of the truth
Austerity and asceticism
Humility
Honesty of speech
Seriousness in life
H.H. explained the importance of a person having a goal in life, to strive on earth for the sake of the heavenly Kingdom, and to beware of obstacles to the path and falling into the sin of stubbornness and rejection of God’s word and advice.
His Holiness established three exercises for a person to acquire right thinking and wisdom:
1- Prayer and asking God for wisdom in different situations, gentleness of behavior, and choosing good words.
2- Reading about the personality of Soliman the Wise in order to live according to his way of thinking and wisdom.
3- Read a chapter from the Book of Proverbs daily every month, because it is full of life experiences and wisdom.
Journalist Ashraf Sadiq, Al-Ahram’s editor-in-chief, is responsible for preparing the weekly Sunday sermon, which the Church Fathers have been presenting in turn since its inception.
