In his weekly Wednesday meeting, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II congratulated the Egyptians, President His Excellency El Sisi and the Armed Forces, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the October Victory.
The Wednesday meeting of His Holiness was held this evening, in the Church of St. Anthony in Zahraa El Maadi.
In the context of his congratulations, His Holiness said: “I take this opportunity to extend my salutes and pride to the Egyptian Armed Forces, on the occasion of the golden jubilee and the fiftieth anniversary of the glorious October victories.” H.H. added: “In 1967, Egypt suffered a serious setback. The setback means failure, defeat, and many other meanings. This setback was the cause of much pain from which Egypt continued to suffer for years, not only at the military level but at all levels. But through the integrity of the Egyptian people, its armed forces, and the National Police, Egypt was able to regain its strength thanks to the development of a war strategy with the utmost discipline and precision, and thus it was able to regain its lands.”
H.H. commented: “This victory was not only a military victory, but it was a moral victory.”
H.H. recalled: “At the time of the war, I was still a university student, and I remember the details of those days, and what the men of the armed forces, officers and soldiers, achieved through innovative ideas, advanced work, and a wonderful system that led to the crossing of the Suez Canal, and the building of the bridge heads on the eastern bank of the canal.
With this courageous step, Egypt regained its land. In addition to regaining land through war, Egypt also regained its dignity. The process of restoring the land was completed through negotiations and international arbitration until the last part, which was Taba, was restored, without giving up a single speck of sand, and thus Egypt’s dignity was preserved. This confirms that the Egyptian character can overcome crises, whatever their type. By working together, we can overcome every crisis.”
H.H. concluded: “In your name, we congratulate all Egyptians, the political leadership, and the armed forces, and we are proud of our armed forces and all those who work honestly and sincerely for the sake of the nation.”
