His Holiness Pope Tawadros II expressed his support for what President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced during the press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Schulz today, regarding the current events in Palestine, and his rejection of the idea of transferring the Palestinians from Gaza to Sinai. His Holiness stressed that this matter is rejected in its entirety.
This came during the weekly Wednesday meeting held by His Holiness in Saint George’s Church; Ard El Geneina, which is affiliated with the East Railway Churches sector in Cairo.
His Holiness said: “We support with all our hearts what President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced, that the removal of the Palestinian presence from Gaza to the Egyptian lands of Sinai is a hollowing out of the Palestinian cause, which is a matter that is completely rejected.”
Pope Tawadros explained that if this happened, the scenario of 75 years ago in 1948 would be repeated, when they expelled the Palestinians from their homes and property.
He added: “As Mr. President announced today, they have the Negev Desert in front of them, which is a part of Israel, and it is originally Palestinian land.”
His Holiness continued: “We pray for calmness and peace, because everything becomes suspended in wars, as families become displaced in terms of their eating, drinking, education and health.”
He asked his listeners to all pray for God to preserve our country and for the peace of the homeland, and to grant tranquility to our neighbors in these fierce wars that affect everyone.
