His Holiness Pope Tawadros II witnessed, Tuesday evening, the celebration of the Hospital of Saint Mary and Martyr Abu Sefen in El Amal City, marking the 15th anniversary of its opening and the graduation of a new batch from the Saint Verena Nursing Center at the St. Rewise Theatre in St. Mark’s Cathedral in Abbaseya.
The celebration began with prayer, followed by the playing of the national anthem.
The celebration included a documentary film about the progress of the “St Virgin Mary and Abu Sefen” Hospital, its departments, and the services it provides. The film mentioned at the Egyptian Ministry of Health choosing the hospital to be visited by a delegation from the World Health Organization, as well as a delegation from UNICEF.
The film also shown the spiritual and social services that the hospital provides to its employees.
In his speech, Professor Dr. Sameh Karam, Chairman of the Hospital’s Board of Directors, discussed the medical services it provides, noting that the number of beneficiaries of medical services in all specialties reached approximately 202 thousand beneficiaries during the year 2022.
For his part, H.G. Bishop Eklemandos, the General Bishop of the churches of the Almaza, Amal City, and East Nasr City, to which the hospital is affiliated, thanked His Holiness for his keenness to attend the celebration and his encouragement of his children at the Saint Verena Center and in the hospital. H.G. also thanked the staff working in the hospital and center, and the families of the graduates, commending the efficiency of those who graduate from the center.
The celebration concluded with a speech by His Holiness, in which he thanked everyone, noting that what affected His Holiness the most regarding the graduates of the “Verena Center” and the staff working in the hospital is that we sense in them the Spirit of God working with love, humility, a good spirit, and a spirit of helping, citing the words of Jesus Christ ”I was sick and you visited Me”
(Matthew 25:36)
His Holiness also praised the services provided by the hospital, the presence of five doctors on the night shift, as well as the provision of a nursery for the children of hospital employees, stressing that the services provided by the hospital are beneficial to the Church and the nation.
Then His Holiness distributed graduation certificates to the 1,300 graduates, from a number of dioceses in Egypt.
