His Holiness Pope Tawadros II congratulated his children – the congregation of the Coptic Orthodox Church – on the occasion of the Nativity fast that begins next Sunday.
This came at the beginning of his weekly sermon in the Wednesday meeting that he held this evening in the Church of the Virgin Mary and St. Mina in Nasr City.
His Holiness noted that the Christmas fast is the first fast in the church year, while we conclude the year with it. H.H. added: “It is good to end the year with fasting and prayer, and begin the new year with fasting and prayer as well.”
His Holiness honoured a group of academically distinguished people from the churches of Almaza, El Amal City, and eastern Nasr City, commending their scientific excellence. His Holiness affirmed that the Church honours these people as a form of encouragement and support for them, because the world rises and advances through the efforts of the distinguished in all fields, especially the fields of science, research, work, and also in the field of church service.
For his part, H.G. Bishop Eklemandos, General Bishop of Almaza, Amal City & East Nasr City, commended the state’s efforts to develop the area in which the Church of the Virgin Mary and St. Mina in Nasr City is located, noting that His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi visited the area more than once during its development to follow up on the ongoing work in it by himself.
H.G. thanked His Holiness for his visit to the church, and congratulated His Holiness on the eleventh anniversary of his Enthronement on the See of St. Mark.
