This evening, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II inaugurated the new St. Takla Hospital, “New Heart Center,” affiliated with St. Takla Church in Ibrahmeya, Alexandria, after the completion of the medical equipment, devices and equipment, and the preparation of all hospital departments.
Upon his arrival at the hospital, His Holiness the Pope was received by Major General Mohamed Al-Sharif, Governor of Alexandria, and Mrs. Jacqueline Azer, Deputy Governor, where His Holiness unveiled the plaque chronicling the opening of the hospital, with the participation of the Governor.
Then, His Holiness the Pope, accompanied by Dr. Ghada Nada, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Alexandria, inspected the hospital’s departments: internal medicine at various levels, operating rooms, intensive care, open-heart operations and catheterization, in addition to the dialysis department.
The opening was attended by the the bishop supervising the pastoral sectors in Alexandria, H.G.Bishop Bavly (Montazah Sector), H.G. Bishop Ilarion (Western Sector), H.G.Bishop Hermina (Eastern Sector), Father Abram Emil, Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria, Father Louka Abdel Masih, responsible for the General Secretariat of Church Hospitals, and priests of the Church of ” St Takla and a number of priests of Alexandria.
Father Kyrillos Kolta, Chairman of the Hospital’s Board of Directors, and Dr. Rafik Nageeb, Director of the Hospital, each delivered a speech, during which they thanked His Holiness the Pope.
For his part, His Holiness spoke in his speech about the importance of the church’s spiritual and service work, and about the greatness of the medical work and patient service that the hospital must provide to the fullest extent.
His Holiness gave memorial gifts to former and departed hospital directors, former members of the board of directors, and those who contributed to equipping the hospital, while Father Kyrillos Kolta presented a memorial gift in the name of the hospital to His Holiness the Pope.
