His Holiness Pope Tawadros II witnessed this evening at the Papal Residence in Cairo the Coptic Press Day celebration under the title “Stations for the Coptic Press in Our Egyptian Country,” which was organized for the second year by the Coptic Press Committee, headed by H.G. Bishop Marcos, Bishop of Damietta, Kafr El Sheikh & ElBarari and supervisor of Al-Karaza magazine.
The celebration included listing the national role of the Coptic press and its support for the homeland in all situations, on the occasion of the golden jubilee of the October victories.
H.G. Bishop Marcos, Dr. Samir Marcos, and Ms. Nadia Mounir, Editorial Secretary of the Sunday School Magazine, spoke during the celebration. The speeches concluded with a speech by His Holiness the Pope, in which H.H. addressed three points that highlight the strong positive impact of the Coptic press, which are:
1- Historical participation: How history reveals many Coptic figures who had a clear imprint in building the nation, and made clear sacrifices for its benefit.
2- Architectural participation: This means the entities and institutions that provided many services that serve all members of Egyptian society, such as hospitals, schools, Coptic museums in Egypt and abroad, the Papal Library in Wadi El-Natroun, which is an important cultural edifice, as well as the Coptic Hospital in Cairo.
3- Community participation: which is the presence of the Coptic Church in all social events, and contributing to addressing community issues and meeting its needs, emphasizing His Holiness’s interest in this participation being effective and not formal, and that the Church is interested in instilling and deepening this feeling among its children.
In conclusion, a group of pioneers of Coptic journalism were honored by His Holiness the Pope.
