Today, Tuesday, the winners of the cultural competition for Christian religious education, organized by the Ministry of Education and Technical Education in partnership with the Coptic Orthodox Church, were honored.
His Holiness Pope Tawadros II honored the winners of the competition for the years 2020/2021 and 2021/2022, including students, teachers, and workers in the education sectors, including those referred to retirement.
The number of honorees reached 153 people from various governorates of Egypt, in addition to some Egyptians working abroad.
The ceremony was attended by the Ministry’s leaders, Dr. Arabi Abu Zeid, Director of the Directorate of Education in Alexandria, Dr. Mahmoud Fouad, Advisor for Religious Education at the Ministry of Education, Ms. Samah Ibrahim, Director of the Directorate of Education in Qalyubia, and Professor Michael Al Komos Youhanna, Responsible for Christian Religious Education at the Ministry.
From the church, H.G. Bishop Arsanius, Bishop of the New Valley and Rapporteur of the Christian Religious Education Committee of the Holy Synod, Father Boules Halim, Director of the Training Sector at the Media Center of the Coptic Church, and Dr. Abdullah Hanna, Coordinator of Relations between the Ministry and the Church, attended.
The honor was preceded by speeches by Father Boulos Halim and Dr. Mahmoud Fouad, and two documentaries about the One Thousand Christian Religious Education Teachers Project, and the Church and Education.
Then His Holiness the Pope spoke, congratulating the winners, and welcomed the attendees, appreciating the fruitful cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the Coptic Church for the benefit of the people of the country. He praised the idea of organizing a religious competition for students because it is beneficial to all the people of the country, whether Christians or Muslims.
His Holiness pointed out that humans learn in three ways:
1- The word: i.e. providing information and knowledge to others.
2- Role model: The student learns from his teacher’s style and his way of behaving. The teaching profession is a lofty profession, so much so that Jesus Christ was called the good teacher.
3- Piety: that is, fear, honesty, sincerity, and a good conscience. These meanings constitute the concept of piety. Whoever works with these values transmits the spirit of piety to others. His Holiness the Pope pointed out that the existence of such a competition instills a spirit of piety among students.
